Talking from Firsthand Experience
November 19, 2009
Good guys end last, they say. Perhaps there is some truth to that statement. Being away from home most of the time these past few months has made me realize its significance. In a society whose adapted to living by the plain rule of the 'survival of the fittest', the less barbaric ones occupy the lower strata. They are constantly being used as 'tools' for success, or rather they themselves sometimes allow it to happen either due to fear, sympathy, or obligation-over-will. But of course, the same cannot be said when a certain fixed hierarchy is in play, such as that in a working environment. Like an issued order in the working environment, favours are exchanged in regular life. Strangers should not go around ordering each other around and neither should relatives nor friends. I'm not saying that these situations never happened; they rightfully shouldn't happen in a functional society. Favours - a civilised gesture - should be asked instead. However, nothing looks as good as it sounds in reality. Bloated with greed, most people, if not all will always ask for more whenever possible. Given a taste, they want more; given more, they want it whole. Life isn't fair anymore for some people - if it wasn't already unfair from the start.
